During the Facebook Connect event this Thursday, 28, the CEO of Facebook,Mark Zuckerberg, announced that the company will now be renamed Meta.
The change will be in the name of the parent company, which means that the social network will continue with the same name. She owns not only Facebook, but also Instagram and Whatsapp. O Google did the same thing in 2005, when it reorganized into a holding company called Alphabet.
The change comes as part of the focus on the metaverse, a concept the CEO has been talking about since July. The group has been investing heavily in virtual reality and augmented reality, especially with its subsidiary Oculus.
At the event, Zuckerberg explained that the Facebook name doesn't fully encompass everything the company does. “At the moment, our brand is closely linked to a product,” he said. “But, over time, I hope we will be seen as a metaverse company.”
